About Recall DJ

Recall DJ brings the energy of the '90s rave scene straight to your nearest speaker — with vinyl roots, pirate radio grit, and a lifelong obsession with the perfect mix. His signature sound? "90's style rave music" — raw, euphoric, and built for the underground. Expect crate-dug classics, genre-blending transitions, and a deep respect for the rave culture that shaped him.

The Spark: Teenrage and Slipmatt (1995)

Recall DJ first began mixing at just 15 years old. His first vinyl came from Chemistry Records, but he didn’t yet own turntables — so he practiced at friends’ houses using belt-drive Soundlab DLP1s. He’d record his sessions onto cassette tapes and replay them endlessly, analysing every mix to improve.

The defining moment came at “Teenrage,” an under-18 rave held at Epsom Leisure Centre in Surrey. DJ Slipmatt headlined, and the energy of that night confirmed Recall DJ’s calling — he knew then that DJing was his future.

Building the Setup: Saving for Technics (1997)

At 17, while working at Chessington World of Adventures, he saved all summer to buy two Technics 1210s and a mixer. With his own gear finally in hand, he became a regular fixture at house parties and local venues, known for bringing the music and staying from start to finish to manage the vibe and the equipment.

First Residency: The Puzzle, Kingston (1998)

Recall DJ landed his first residency at “The Puzzle” in Kingston upon Thames, where he worked as a barman and DJed every Tuesday, occasionally stepping into weekend slots. His time there was formative — he connected with DJs from all walks of life, absorbing their stories, techniques, and musical insights.

He also played at other Kingston venues like Oscars, Baccus, and several bars, and even warmed up for Norris ‘The Boss’ Windross at a Garage night on Old Burlington Street in London.

Pirate Radio Days: Image 99.7 FM (2000)

By 2000, Recall DJ was broadcasting on Image 99.7 FM in London, hosting two weekly shows:

Monday 8–10 PM: Old Skool Hardcore and Jungle

Saturday 2–4 PM: Breaks

These were the early days of internet culture — MySpace was around, but Facebook hadn’t arrived yet. The station’s Nokia phone could barely keep up with the flood of listener messages, creating a chaotic but thrilling atmosphere.

His Breaks sets were pioneering for the time, introducing many London listeners to the genre for the first time. Drawing on samples from Hardcore, Jungle, House, Garage, and Drum & Bass, Recall DJ crafted diverse and engaging sets that pushed boundaries and built bridges between styles.

Today: The New ‘90s Rave Mix

After Image FM, he continued to guest on other FM stations and remains open to future radio opportunities. Today, his focus is on “The New ‘90s Rave Mix,” a nostalgic yet fresh series carried by JDK Radio, celebrating the golden era of rave with a modern twist — all from the comfort of his home setup.

Whether it’s a cassette deck, FM airwaves, or digital stream, Recall DJ stays true to the ethos that started it all: “90’s style rave music” — brought to life, one mix at a time.
